The ESSnet project portfolio is assessed by Eurostat on an annual basis. The latest reports are somewhat different from the previous. The report does no longer include on-going projects, which proved difficult to assess, but concentrates on projects that have recently been finalised. The report also focusses more on the contents of the projects. In fact, the aim of the assessment is not the review of individual projects, but rather the strategic review of the ESSnets as an instrument to support collaborative development and innovation in the European Statistical System. The assessment is based on an agreed assessment framework.
Centres of Excellence are an instrument similar to ESSnets, but more geared towards supporting the implementation of development results througout the ESS. Currently only three pilot Centres of Excellence exist. These pilot Centres have been assessed using a similar assessment framework.
