Full name of the series in original language
POLS basis - basismodule van het Permanent Onderzoek Leefsituatie (POLS)
Abstract

The purpose of the Permanent survey of life conditions (POLS) is - in short - providing a platform to collect on a permanent basis quality and consistent information on the situation of the Dutch population. Apart from questions about the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics the questionnaire also contains the basic questions to the most important aspects of the social situation, called core indicators (housing, health, lifestyles, quality of work, political involvement, environment, social participation, time spending, victimization (crime), insecurity). This is a secure micro file from the Central Bureau of Statistics, CBS.
The basic questionnaire of POLS contains questions about background characteristics and about general living conditions. In 2004 compared to previous years the question block education substantially amended and the question block profession and business changed dramatically. In 2001 a block of questions about childcare is added at the base questionnaire. Questions about childcare are solely provided to sample persons that are a parent / guardian of one or more children under the age of thirteen. If a sample person met this criterion he/she was asked separately for each child for the need and use of childcare, and if so what type of care and its duration. Furthermore the parents are asked whether they are satisfied with the care, what the costs are and for what reason they use childcare.
