Latest developments and foreseen activities

Eurostat will inform about the latest developments and foreseen activities in the framework of the data validation ESS deployment project. In particular, on the work of the Task Force on Validation, the ongoing work of the ESSnet Validat Integration, the state of play for the Validation and Transformation Language. The Business and IT architecture as well as an approach for deploying harmonised documentation of validation rules and roles across statistical domains will be presented for potential comments.

BIRD (Bank's integrated Reporting Dictionary) project

The ECB will present the BIRD (Bank's integrated Reporting Dictionary) project which uses VTL to describe validation rules.

Break-out sessions (methodology, architecture, services, VTL)

An introduction to the 4 break-out sessions will be given during 10 minutes, then 4 Break-out sessions of 40 minutes each will take place in parallel:

  • (Session 1) Methodology,
  • (Session 2) Business architecture for ESS validation,
  • (Session 3) Tools and services,
  • (Session 4) VTL (Validation and Transformation Language).

Report on statistical confidentiality

Eurostat will report on the projects and activities in the field of statistical confidentiality, in particular: on the results of the Centre of excellence on statistical disclosure control, on the development of public use files for EU-SILC and EU-LFS and on the progress in release of microdata for scientific purposes.

Waivers implementation in business statistics

Waivers (disclosure permissions) allow NSIs to reduce the number of confidential cells. Eurostat will present NSIs experiences and some recommendations for waivers' implementation.

Selectivity in Big Data Sources

Eurostat will present methods that could be used to reduce self-selection bias, namely reweighting, modelling and its combination.

Temporal Disaggregation

Eurostat will present the draft ESS guidelines on temporal disaggregation, benchmarking and balancing. The aim is to help the ESS in the daily production of high frequency data from annual to quarterly to monthly figures
