When applications are approved, microdata may be released after an anonymisation process which ensures no direct identification of the statistical units, while still maintaining usability of the data. Conditions for non-resident researchers There are no special conditions in place for non-resident researchers. All applicants (resident or non-resident) are treated the same way. Conditions for students Postgraduate students may apply via their supervising professor or the head of their department. A permanent member of the academic staff in an identifiable entity of a higher education institution (such as faculty, school, department, research institute, etc) needs to be the applicant. Legal framework Statistics Law No. 15 (I) of 2000 How to apply & modes of access Public Use Files N/A Scientific Use Files According to the Statistics Law No. 15(I) of 2000, when a statistical unit can be identified directly or indirectly, the dataset containing this statistical unit is considered confidential. CYSTAT can give confidential data to researchers as long as the statistical unit is not directly identifiable. Variables such as names, addresses, identity and phone numbers are removed from the dataset. Applicants have to submit the request form "APPLICATION FOR DATA FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES" and attach thorough information on the project for which microdata are needed, specifically: • Description of research project • Description of data requested and justification for the need of using confidential data • Name(s) of the person(s) who will have access to the data • Actions to be taken to ensure data security • Description of the expected outputs and means of dissemination Secure Use Files N/A Details & practical information How long does it take to obtain data? Data can be obtained fairly quickly but it could sometimes take up to a month. It depends primarily on the completeness of the application submitted and whether additional information needs to be provided. How much does it cost? For each approved application, a charge is fixed on the basis of the type and periodicity of the survey and the number of periods requested.
